An author’s two best days of a book project: When the manuscript is completed, and when one holds the first printed copy in-hand.
Writing this book was cathartic, but reliving the nightmare of losing our son, Erik, was difficult. Hence, I was more than relieved, when Chapter 34 of “THE PERMIT” was finished. A good day!
However, a little mind-voice kept whispering, “No, you’re not done. The book’s not complete.” But I had nothing to write, no story left to tell! Still, the small voice kept nagging.
Early one morning, I fired up the computer, closed my eyes and asked for guidance. Soon, ideas began to form. I started writing—and this EPILOGUE slowly emerged. As if someone else were typing, words flowed, describing images and conversations racing through my head.
Finally, I read and re-read the EPILOGUE, silently said “Thank you,” and declared victory. At last, the book felt DONE.
Since THE PERMIT was published, readers have claimed they either loved or hated the EPILOGUE. Nothing in between. I could only respond, “It came from somewhere beyond. Maybe those words weren’t mine.”
This concludes the Podcast/Serialized Audiobook version of THE PERMIT. Hardcopy and E-book (Kindle) editions also are available from Amazon and the publisher, NorthSlopePublications.com.
